*This Thursday, March 8 at 7:30 in the Family Room downstairs at the IMC we
will be making art to use at the two upcoming Flex-N-Gate actions.*
Anyone interested in supporting the Flex-N-Gate workers, making art for
protest, or learning more about the issue is welcome to partake! Please
forward this to any individuals or groups who might be excited about this
event!

*Some things we would like to accomplish-*
-Sign and banner making for the rally
-Chalking campus to let students know about the events
-Finding a way to visually represent community support for the Flex-N-Gate
workers even when all the supporters are not physically present. (some kind
of big attractive sign with signatures/statements that people can add to at
the speak out)
-Creating some design elements/visual coherence so the issue can become
recognizable and familiar in Champaign-Urbana.
-Puppet making?
-Stencil making?

*Needs/ Desires for this event* *(in order of importance)*
-Your presence and creativity and ideas
-Art supplies (we will already have some)
-Snacks (we will also have some of those)

General Info About Flex-N-Gate*
Over the past months Flex-N-Gate Campaign workers have been organizing
to improve working conditions and safety at the local plant.
According to the website dedicated to this campaign: “In early
December 2011, workers at Flex-N-Gate’s Guardian West plant in Urbana,
Illinois, filed complaints with the U.S. Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) alleging more than 30 violations of OSHA
standards intended to protect against unsafe working conditions at the
plant. The plant manufactures, electroplates, and paints bumpers for a
variety of light trucks.”

Recently, Congolese workers who have taken leadership roles in the
campaign faced eviction from their apartments, apparently in
retaliation to their activism. This decision was reversed due to the
outcry from the community and local labor, but has highlighted the
fact that these workers need support.

Jobs With Justice has answered their call for help. They are planning
a series of actions in support of Flex-N-Gate workers.
