*Teach-In | Facing Food Deserts: Building a Community Garden in South Urbana

As part of the 2nd Annual Campus Ecofeminism Summit, community members of a
low-income neighborhood in south Urbana will speak about how they organized
to successfully gain access to fresh, organic produce in the face of living
in a food desert.

As part of the Racial Justice Dialogue Series, the YWCA is hosting members
of Champaign County Health Care Consumers (CCHCC) and residents of the 5th
and Hill area to speak about the chemical dumping in northern Champaign
that had lead to increased contaminated groundwater.

Filmed over nearly three years, Waste Land follows renowned Brazillian
artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his
native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardin Gramacho,
located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.
