Hey Karen, and All,

Thanks for great list of May events.  I am afraid I may have made mistake about there being two JWJ Activist Trainings in May.  As far as I have been able to discern from communications from JWJ, they will only be holding one, day long training session in May.  That one wil be on May 26th at the Urbana Library, from 9:30am to 5:00pm.  Sorry about confusion, I must have misunderstood things at that last meeting.

Sandra

Roy Zimmerman, "Live from the Starving Ear", satirical songs
Tuesday, May 1, 2012
7:00pm until 8:30pm
Main Lounge of Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory drive, Urbana, Illinois
Roy Zimmerman has made a "campaign promise" to perform his wickedly
inventive satirical songs in all fifty states before the Republican
Convention. “Live From the Starving Ear” is a 90-minute juggernaut of
funny songs and comic commentary on presidential politics, the Occupy
Movement, the Tea Party, abstinence, Creationism, and same sex
marriage.
* His songs have been heard on HBO and Showtime. He has recorded for
Warner/Reprise Records. He’s been profiled on NPR’s “All Things
Considered,” and he's a featured blogger for the Huffington Post.
Roy’s YouTube videos have garnered over seven million views and tens
of thousands of comments, many of them coherent.
* The Los Angeles Times says, “Zimmerman displays a lacerating wit and
keen awareness of society’s foibles that bring to mind a latter-day
Tom Lehrer.”
* Tom Lehrer himself says, "I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on
reintroducing literacy to comedy songs."
* Joni Mitchell says, "Roy's lyrics move beyond poetry and achieve perfection."
