Eight out of 10 Americans agree that...

• Corporate political spending has made politics more negative on both federal and state levels.
• Corporations and corporate CEOs have too much political power and influence.
• Corporate political spending drowns out the voices of average Americans.

A new poll commissioned by the Corporate Reform Coalition, of which Demos is a part, shows an overwhelming, bipartisan consensus<http://org2.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=SeJ0K%2Bc0s89FKqg1Fj7IzJEYt2NWw10c> among Americans that there is far too much corporate money in politics. Nearly eight out of 10 Americans are critical of big money in politics, and they support common sense reforms to enforce transparency and accountability for corporate spending.

Americans know excessive corporate spending in our elections distorts our political discourse, striking at the heart of our democratic society. With strong support for a number of achievable reforms<http://org2.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=aYZ8erLeHp6jK2PDNeWmF5EYt2NWw10c> such as small donor public financing, disclosure and disclaimer requirements and shareholder approval, we can ensure every American's voice is heard in our political system.

Why Isn't Voter Suppression a Bigger Story?

Bob Herbert, Demos Distinguished Senior Fellow, talked with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow<http://org2.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=GzSmqXnEZ9mOvAHcsUu8g5EYt2NWw10c> about voter intimidation tactics.

Meanwhile, Senior Democracy Fellow Tova Wang appeared on Al Jazeera to talk about ways Voter ID restrictions impact more Americans than you'd think<http://org2.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=7BC%2F3Yn%2FzyKR%2Bqt6rDowQ5EYt2NWw10c>. Wang's new book, The Politics of Voter Suppression was published this fall in time to give a historical overview of how election law has been manipulated for partisan advantage.
