A friend of mine who is originally from Chicago, Marty Conlisk, is organizing this exhibit in Sacromento. Anthony Rayson and Michael Ploski were guests on the " World Labor Hour " a few years ago when they came to Champaign-Urbana and showed some of the prison art at the IMC.
Most of the art is very political and quite ineteresting in both style and subject matter. A worthwhile project deserving support. Below is more info and how you can help.

We want to bring together thousands of pieces of prisoner art and 'zines' in one location - art rarely seen outside prison walls.

With Conviction: Art and Letters From Behind Prison Walls

For the past twenty five years Anthony Rayson and his partner Michael Ploski have collected prisoner literature in the form of "zines" and simultaneously amassed hundreds of pieces of original artwork rarely before exhibited beyond prison walls. We are raising funds in order to bring together these amazing pieces of art and these literary zines (sometimes political, sometimes comic) in a combined month long gallery exhibit-complete with an opening night lecture by Mr. Rayson. We are working with Exhibit S, a beautiful gallery less than a half mile from California's State Capitol, so the show may be seen, not only by the general public, but more specifically, the lawmakers and politicos that the art and literature generated within the prison industrial complex, so often revolves around. This is top notch art work and thought provoking literature reflecting the attitudes currently gestating within our prisons. There is tattoo art, art from almost every ethnicity, and political writings generated by various political agendas that beg the question: does this material deserve our attention? Not only does it, but to hide it away could be ultimately detrimental to society.

We have set the date for this show for: January 11th, 2014!

But in order to make this happen we need your help. We are trying to raise enough money to fly Anthony and Michael out to California with original artwork and zines. They will hold a press conference before the show and give a lecture during the exhibit's opening. The more money we raise, the possibilities for the show increase and if enough money is raised, we can think about bringing the show to other venues throughout the country.

Your donations will also bring you direct rewards such as copies of original artwork, copies of Zines, and even a tarcelli chess board!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Risks and Challenges associated with this campaign are minimal, rearing only if we do not raise sufficient funds to cover travel and lodging expenses for the curators of the exhibit. This would force us to rethink when/if we can put on the show. Also, traveling with the art pieces brings a certain security to the event, rather than hoping everything arrives on time and in good order.
