Thursday April 4th is the 45th anniversary of the murder of Dr, M.L. King in Memphis Tennesse in 1968.
The reason Dr. King was in Memphis on this date was because of the Memphis Sanitation Worlers Strike. This strike was a campaign for economic justice, that was to launch Dr. King's planned Poor People's Campaign March on Washington D.C. later that year.
Many people believe that Dr. King was murdered by elements within the U.S. government because of his new focus on opposition to the Vietnam War and militarism in general, and his efforts to organize poor people and Workers of all races to challenge the U.S. economic system of capitalism.

" AT THE RIVER I STAND "

An excellent documentary of the Memphis Sanitation Workers Strike, with mostly archival news footage and individual activist film footage, as well as interviews of those who were involved in the events.
