In August 2012 South African police killed 34 striking platinum
mineworkers in Marikana and claimed that they at acted in self-defense.
Miners Shot Down tells a different story with compelling police footage
and interviews with strike leaders and lawyers at the ensuing commission
of inquiry into the massacre. What emerges is a tragedy that reveals the
deep fault lines in South Africa's 20 year old democracy of deepening
inequality , violence and unfulfilled promises of a better life for all.

Sponsored by FAA Taft Grant, Uhuru Productions,
Marikana Support Committee, Center for African Studies
