Well social works projects, educational projects, and helping the poor,
impoverished, and undereducated segments of our society will not be
beneficial in maintaining the corporate capitalistic structure of our
society.

That being said I think the big question is why do Colleges and Universities
across the country have to increasingly rely on private sources to pay for
the costs of a public education?  A few years ago a professor at ISU told me
that taxpayer dollars covered less than 30% of the schools operating costs
and the rest had to come from other resources. This is perhaps why people
who can sell shoes to a snake are also ideal candidates to hire for the
purpose of obtaining corporate welfare for public schools.

Just my not so humble opinion :-)
