"The financial boom of the first half of this decade will be remembered as a
time that innovation overwhelmed the capacity of both regulators and
financial institutions to assess risk" among other things like the evidence
that Marx may have been right about the internal contradictions of
Capitalism and the greed factor even if his timing was wrong and that those
internal contradictions are magnified under corporate capitalism where
operations become too big to let fail as a result of poor management, supply
and demand, competition so as to require the support of corporate welfare
from the State (i.e., Socialism for the corporations, capitalism for the
individuals). It is enough to make one consider resigning from the human
race and join a more intelligent species - like chickens.

This is made all too clear in the article below:

Floyd Norris | Citibank: Another Crisis, Another Guarantee
http://www.truthout.org/112408C Floyd Norris, The New York Times:
"Guarantees that could not be honored thrust the world financial system into
its worst crisis since the Great Depression. Will a guarantee by the United
States government finally restore confidence in the American financial
system?"
