As the top contributor to Senator Sinema, Emily’s List has a moral
obligation to hold the Senator accountable for her positions or risk losing
any residue of relevance it still has.

Last year in February, Senator Sinema gave a big F**ck Off to working
people by voting down the minimum wage increase and then in April, showed
them an actual F**ck Off ring on her Instagram. Since, when not dining with
wealthy donors in London or doing a paid “internship” at a winery in
California, she devoted her time to obstructing every major policy that
would help everyday people by protecting the Jim Crow filibuster and
opposing several key elements of the Build Back Better bill. Senator Sinema
has demonstrated that she cares more about protecting the interests of her
corporate donors rather than democracy and voters who elected her.

After all of this, Emily’s List is still standing by her. As of now, their
Board or leadership have not responded to the letter we sent at all (and I
know because I keep refreshing my inbox every 10 minutes not to miss it!).
The only activity we have seen was that after Twitter exploded with
people’s anger towards Emily’s List, they quietly removed Sinema’s op-ed
defending the filibuster from their website.

Emily’s List is a tool of the corporate machine, hiding behind identity
politics taking advantage of mostly women donors who don’t know that the
organization will not support progressive women who challenge the status
quo and their mission to support “pro-choice Democratic women” is a big fat
lie.

If we are going to change the political landscape, we must build strong
progressive institutions that will not turn into corporate puppets. We can
do it only if grassroots donors believe in our work. With Catch Fire, we
want to do just that.

The only way to stay connected to the movement is to be funded by
grassroots. Steven and I have a big goal for January: we want to raise
$10,000 by the end of the month. That’s what we need every month to hire a
permanent staffer and help the organization grow. *Can you commit to $50 a
