At this conference,<BR>CCHCC staff learned about prospects for national health reform and how, as<BR>advocates, we can continue to demand for real health reform!
Attend the next<BR>Health Care Access Task Force meeting on February 11, 2010 (see more info<BR>below) to learn more about next steps for national health reform. <BR><BR>-- 5th & Hill Neighborhood Rights Campaign:<BR>The 5th & Hill Neighborhood Rights Campaign continues to work hard to get<BR>the toxic site in north Champaign cleaned up. The Consumer Health Hotline<BR>needs volunteer Hotline Advocates to work one-on-one with clients who are<BR>having problems with the health care system. Volunteering for the Hotline is<BR>a great way to learn about the health care system and provide important,<BR>direct service to people in the community. Volunteers gain problem solving<BR>skills and help empower consumers. community? <BR><BR>Answer: Yes! The Avicenna Community Health Center recently opened to provide<BR>free care to uninsured people in our community. Avicenna Community Health<BR>Center is located at 507 S. 2nd Street, Suite 2E in Champaign and operates<BR>on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00<BR>p.m. They also operate a satellite clinic the first Friday of each month at<BR>the Central Illinois Mosque & Islamic Center from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Patients<BR>should call 217-418-5888 on Thursdays from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. to make an<BR>appointment. Avicenna currently provides blood pressure and glucose<BR>screenings, one-on-one consultations with a physician, direct referrals to<BR>local facilities, and diet and nutrition information. <BR><BR><BR>4. UPCOMING MEETINGS & EVENTS<BR><BR>-- Attend the next Health Care Access Task Force meeting on Thursday,<BR>February 11, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church
