Yesterday reporting was snotty, and dismissive about Israel's actions... lotsa references to Hamas terrorists seizing power in 2007, etc as justification for Israel's "defending itself." Today reporting is sensitive and truthful, no mention of Hamas at all... and the closing comment was (paraphrased) that international pressure would force Israel both to end the blockade AND to change its behavior to resolve conflict in the ME. <div><font face="Calibri">I wouldn't hold one's breath. I do not think that
the Israelis view or consider their actions a blunder; nor do I think anyone
else does either. It was fairly well though out and planned - not to
mention very deliberate action. I would suggest that Israel anticipated
the sorts of reactions that their actions would produce and assessed both the up
and the down sides for them of such actions based on their knowledge and past
experiences as to what they could expect. If Turkey and Europe, China and
Russia were to break off diplomatic relations with Israel and declare
war with them - calling it a "police action" of course - and attacked
Israel's territory with rockets and airpower or troops, then that would
have be an unintended and unexpected consequence that would have taken Israel by
surprise. That would be considered by Israel and the rest of the
world to have been a blunder on Israel's part in the sense of a miscalculation
or irrational action to have attacked the boats in international waters and/or
kill and detain persons on those boats.</font></div>

it comes to the other/really big issues, and where the US draws the line.
No question that this was enuff of a blunder on Israel's part that
there're bound to be some perks (at least temporarily) for Palestinians.

isn't so, and from an activist point of view, it's important for people
to understand that it isn't so.

United States which are critical of Israeli government actions and
subsequent actions by the Israeli government. </div>

which, among other things, called on Israel to release the
detainees.</div>

<div>Now - later the same day - it is being reported that the Israeli
government has decided to release the prisoners. </div>

<div>Is that significant? Well, first of all, of course, the prisoners
have the right to go free. But secondly, the moment they are free they
get to tell their story - surely a motivation for their previous
continued detention. Already, lots of stories are coming out with
headlines saying, "released activists dispute Israeli government

I once believed it did (or must have had, considering the
amt of US $upport), but I'm beginning to think that Israel,
under Netanyahu most especially, is marching unstoppably to its
own mad drummer, willfully oblivious to anything or anyone... as
crazy and as hell-bent on its agenda as decades ago Germany,
current N Korea, and (it could be argued in some instances) the
US since its inception...
