The Average (mean) is always higher than the Median (middle value)
indicating<br>
that the waiting time is a typical waiting time distribution with a
long tail to the right<br>
that is typically censored as waiting is given up on.<br>

The current unemployment is characterized by an <br>
unusually high frequency of long periods of not finding a job.<br>
<br>
But these figures above are based on U-3, which is the short-term
unemployment,<br>
the one that makes the headlines. The US Government keeps another set
of stats called<br>
U-6 which includes "short-term discouraged and other
marginally-attached workers <br>
as well as those forced to work part-time because they cannot find
full-time employment."<br>
There is yet another statistic compiled by Shadow Government Statistics
(SGS) which<br>
includes an estimate of discouraged workers no longer seeking
employment which was <br>
phased out of the official stats in 1994.<br>
