IVAW has been pushing on this line for a while, and I haven't seen any public complaint so far. I think they have been careful to try to do it in a solidaristic rather than a trumping way. It's a legitimate concern, but I think the answer to the concern is to try to bring the issue to the table in the right way, rather than not trying to bring the issue to the table. <div>
<br></div><div>It's important to keep in mind that at this point any crowd consisting largely of mobilized Democrats is likely to be very sympathetic to an anti-war message at this point. 19% of Democrats think the war in Afghanistan is worth fighting, the Washington Post reported yesterday. (Nearly 2/3 of Americans overall think the war is not worth fighting, 3/4 want to see a substantial drawdown starting this summer.) The Democratic National Committee recently passed a resolution calling for "swift withdrawal." It's the John Kerrys of the world who are the outliers among Democrats. <br>
