
<html><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "><div><b>US drone strike kills 29 in Somalia</b></div><div id="divNewsDetail"><div id="divNewsDatetime">Fri Oct 7, 2011 4:36PM GMT</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><br><div id="divShare"></div></div><img id="imgMain" width="450px" height="300px" src="cid:1490F0F9-0607-4316-AFBF-ACC73CCD9F74"><div id="divImageDesc"><br></div><div id="divImageDesc">A US drone strike has left 29 Somali civilians dead as violence continues to intensify in the war-torn Horn of Africa nation, Press TV reports.</div><br><br>The Drone attack also left more than 28 injured near the southern town of Qooqani, 100 kilometers from the town of Afmadow, near the port city of Kismayo. <br><br>Shortly after the attack, Somali troops entered the town. A heavy exchange of fire broke out between al-Shabab fighters and Somalia troops. <br><br>Meanwhile, reports indicate that Somali troops have captured the town of Qooqani, leaving dozens of al-Shabab fighters dead. <br><br>Drone strikes in Somalia make the lawless state the sixth country where the US military has used remote-controlled aircraft to conduct such lethal strikes. <br><br>The US has now employed drones in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq and Yemen to launch aerial bombings. <br><br>Somalia has been without a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre. <br><br>Strategically located in the Horn of Africa, Somalia remains one of the countries generating the highest number of refugees and internally displaced persons in the world. </body></html>
