Still, prison operation&construction, like arms manufacture, make lousy public works projects- they're dead-end ways to use money. And extravagant for their nominal purpose. Think I've heard that closing TAMMS is supposed to save $30M/year, while it houses 180-some prisoners. If true that'd be over $160,000 to torture each prisoner for a year. We really have to be able to do better than this, and not by lower cost means of torturous confinement.

Likewise, closure of Tamms will decimate the local economy. We can agree<br>
that the idea of prisons sucked from the beginning. But the inmates are not the <br>
only ones in prison.<br>
