<br>
Wednesday <b>9/12 5:30pm Champaign Public Library</b><br>
<b>"Can Technology Serve Social Justice?"</b> lecture by Virginia
Eubanks, SUNY Albany<br>
<br>
In this talk, Dr. Eubanks reflects on fifteen years of efforts
with three grassroots organizations–Our Knowledge, Our Power:
Surviving Welfare, the Popular Technology Workshops, and Women at
the YWCA Making Social Movement– to make technology serve the needs
of oppressed and exploited people in the United States. (She was
also interviewed on WILL-AM Focus on Monday - archive at <a
href="http://audio01.will.illinois.edu/focus120910a.mp3">http://audio01.will.illinois.edu/focus120910a.mp3</a><br>
Among her comments - some had dreamed that simply making technology,
and tech education, available would overturn social inequality.
This is not borne out, for a variety of reasons she describes.)<br>
