<p align="left"><span style="font-size:12pt">E. P. Thompson’s The Making of the English Working Class, first published in 1963, was a landmark in British labor, social and political history. It shaped a generation of historians: that global cadre of 1968 that
ultimately transformed the academy, intellectually and institutionally, by insisting on the presence of underrepresented subjects in history and across the disciplines as well. This conference asks what the book, now half a century old, has done to shape the
researching and writing of world histories from below.</span></p>
