There are those who would try to tell us that the higher expenditures
for higher education have improved<br>
the quality of education as compared to what it was when the tuition at
the U of I was $343/semester.<br>
<br>
Those folks have the same thinking as those who think that higher
medical bills get you better health.<br>
<br>
If you have a dead chicken or a dead horse, the maggots will consume
all of it. Provide the university with a larger potential source of
income and maggot-like it will increase its collective appetite until
it's all gone.<br>
<br>
The university is a much a part and beneficiary of the
financial-education industrial complex as<br>
the health care providers are a beneficiary of the medical-insurance
industrial complex. The expenses<br>
expand to consume all of the sacrifice, and lick up the water around
the altar as well.<br>
<br>
It's not necessarily evil per se. That's how it works. Push on the
accelerator and the motor compensates.<br>
