Yes, I understand the frustration and exhaustion aspect, and
therefore understand why you may not join the parade. But maybe
you and Stuart and other members of AWARE could stop by the after
parade picnic at least, In the park on the east side of the
Brookens County building on East Washington st. in Urbana.
Also, how about we do a radio program about the anti-war movement
and U.S. Labor Against the War ( USLAW ) with a phone in interview
from someone from USLAW the first Saturday in October ( Oct. 4th )

I might join, for as you say "we can't give up, and must
continue to speak out". I'm minding the heat, and feeling
frustrated with the direction the world is headed.
It was not my intention to belittle those involved in the Labor
movement, nor those involved in politics seeking an alternative
to the corporate owned government we now have. I just don't wish
to march in another parade as the past two 4th of July events,
with the only form of communication being that of showing our
signs.

On a more positive note, I just read an article in the Public I,
by Al Kagan in relation to the US Labor movement, which is not
dead. I think it's worth looking into the organization he refers
to as USLAW, or US Labor Against the War, as you know I am very
supportive of Unions, though I lack any experience with them.
His group offers hope.
in jail and about to go to trial in Thailand for his activities.
I would hope to bring about a more unified approach to labor, an
issue you are much better informed than I.
I understand your position, but please reconsider.
The Labor Day parade is an oppurtunity to not only have
more public exposure but also to confront ( so to speak
) those people who will be there and ask them why they
do not consider the war an importent issue.

It sounds nice, these holiday parades,
scheduled once a year to celebrate what our predecessors

I am thinking that we/AWARE should be demonstrating today,

There'll be a Progressive Contingent marching in the
Labor Day parade on Monday morning - want to march with
it? Bring your own sign, or we'll have some of
AWARE's. This is the same sort of thing we did for
the Fourth of July parade.

When: Monday, Sep 1st. Start marching at 10am. (Lineup
starts at 9am.)
Where: Lincoln Square parking lot (where the Farmer's
Market is held)

Who: probably people from several groups will be there.
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) are organizing
it. Jobs with Justice, Food and Water Watch (some of
them will dress as bees and I might too), a group of
young women speaking out for reproductive rights, AWARE,
and likely others. But this will be separate from the
political campaigns and the main party groups - they'll
have their own contingents in the parade.

The organizers of this Progressive contingent write:

PDA Central Illinois
will march in the Champaign County Labor Day Parade
as part of the Progressive Coalition. Line-up starts
at 9 a.m. in the Lincoln Square parking lot, with
the parade starting at 10 a.m. We will have a
vehicle for those who do not want to walk AFL-CIO
picnic afterwards. We will have a voter registration
table at the picnic. Contact Deb at <a
