Indomethacin is a very old NSAID drug (first approved in 1965)
but is still prescription only because it is very powerful and
actually somewhat dangerous
because of its rather extreme efficacy as a prostaglandin blocker.

The patent is long since off, so the only thing the companies have
to sell
to each other is the license to market the drug in the USA. $36 is
already
a whopping huge price for this drug.

On the one hand, the American people want high quality medicines,
but crony capitalism and the medical-pharmaceutical-insurance
industrial complex
welcome regulation and pervert regulation into a hammer to crush
competition as well as innovation and
get exclusive rights to sell a drug at ridiculous prices.

So the control of the drug that Ovation got was provided courtesy of
the FDA. The FDA is in collusion with big pharma, big medicine, big
insurance, the 1%,
and "protection of the well-being of the people" has been perverted
into a grand scam.

The medical system is heavily parasitized. It is a delicate thing
when a dog or a horse
is so heavily infested with whipworms (in the case of dogs) or
strongyles (in the case of horses).

If you dont kill the parasites the loss will continue.

But if you kill them suddenly, the worms that have become such a
part of the system
will leave big holes in the gut where they were attached and the gut
wall will be something
like hamburger and the animal may die as a result of the treatment.
It's
actually fairly common to have that happen in heavily parasitized
dogs or horses.
Cattle and pigs seem to be more resilient.

Much better to use a treatment that will reduce the numbers of the
parasites rather slowly
than to simply zap them all neutron bomb style.

Ovation acquired the rights to a drug developed by Merck &

However, Rauner can’t undo what a federal regulatory agency
under Republican President George W. Bush said about his
company. And while the government wasn’t successful in this
particular case, we have a prime illustration of how Bruce
Rauner worked hand-in-hand with Big Pharma to keep the price of
American health care high.

Courts have an important job to do and they are bound by their
own standards of proof and procedure. Courts deal in legality
not morality.

Voters on November 4th also have an important job to do. It’s
perfectly reasonable for any voter to look at the facts of this
case and reach their own conclusion. We won’t be deciding civil
liability on November 4. Instead we’ll be choosing which man is
best suited to always put the interest of our state’s people
first.

In Rauner’s world it’s all about what he can do, instead of
what he should do.

Under the Rauner business doctrine desperate parents were
forced to pay Rauner’s price to save their critically ill
babies. That is a fact and it is undisputed.

It’s beyond disgusting.

(end of article. Good job Doug Ibendahl. I often don't agree
with him, but sometimes do (as here, and likewise on the unwisdom
of having states promote gambling), and in any case he seems to
have some good sense.)
