<div>Davis on right side of Cuba question</div>
<div>Mon, 12/22/2014 - 3:39am | The News-Gazette</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I was glad to see our representative, Rodney Davis,
take a strong stand in support of President Obama's move
to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba and ease the
U.S. embargo on Cuba ("Davis praises Obama's action; says
it will help families, farmers," Dec. 18.)</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Rep. Davis has long advocated easing the blockade to
make it easier for Illinois farmers to export to Cuba, as
your article noted.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, hostile Republican reactions like that
of Sen. Rubio got the most national press attention. But
other Republicans joined Rep. Davis in welcoming President
Obama's move, like Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake and Utah Rep.
Jason Chaffetz.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I hope Rep. Davis will work vigorously with both
Republicans and Democrats in Congress to end the embargo
completely, eliminating restrictions on the ability of all
Americans to travel freely to Cuba. As Rep. Chaffetz
noted, "we should allow all Americans to make those
choices. You can travel to North Korea, you can travel to
some pretty awful places, Americans should be able to make
those decisions all by themselves."</div>
