Chasing off Wise as chancellor;” and to released emails revealing the
machinations of the local 1 percent. Fittingly, O’Laughlin is identified with
the crackpot “Academy for Capitalism and Limited Government.”</font></div><font id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15402" face="Times New Roman">
</font><div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15403" style="background: white; margin: 6pt 0in; line-height: normal;"><font id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15404" face="Calibri">One day after publication of
O’Laughlin’s letter, it’s gone from the <i id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15405" style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">News-Gazette’s</i>
website, and for good reason. It concludes: “</font><span id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15406" style='color: black; font-family: "Garamond",serif; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman";'>If a purification process
is needed, Phyllis Wise would seem a bad beginning. A better place to start?
How about Indian studies?” This follows a denigrating comment about Steven
Salaita.</span></div><font id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15407" face="Times New Roman">
</font><div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15408" style="background: white; margin: 6pt 0in; line-height: normal;"><span id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15409" style='color: black; font-family: "Garamond",serif; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman";'>O’Laughlin can’t get enough
genocide against Indians, nor enough purification of white guilt through mascot
minstrelsy. Now that the “Chief” is gone and Salaita beckons, O’Laughlin denigrates
Indian Studies in crudely racist fashion. Not coincidentally, Salaita was hired
partly to examine connections among colonial discourses about indigenous
peoples, including Palestinians. In terms of both Zionism and Manifest Destiny,
this campus community provides ample opportunities. That’s partly why Salaita
had to be terminated and has to be vilified.</span></div><font id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15410" face="Times New Roman">

e-mails, pages 540-560, are astonishing. They involve Dr. Michele Mariscalo, current
Dean of the COM, who did not support Wise’s proposal. Wise and her wealthy
collaborators—Leonard, Lykins, Stephens, Fox, Habeeb—are participants in and
witnesses to condescending, sexist, and petulant comments about Dr. Mariscalo. She
is “this lady,” “spunky,” a “newbie,” and a “1 track thinker.”</span></div><font id="yui_3_16_0_1_1440345915664_15413" face="Times New Roman">

unethical individuals shamelessly use the university to enhance their egos and
