Half-baked proposals for the U.S. to do stupid things in other people's countries continue to get promoted by leading politicians and big U.S. media like Face the Nation [1] - like sending U.S. ground troops to Syria, or imposing a "safe zone" or "no fly zone," or increasing U.S. bombing in Syria with even less regard for civilian casualties than we have today. <br class="">

"Safe zone" - who could object to that? It sounds so innocent, so pure. <br class="">

But as I pointed out today at Huffington Post [2], U.S.-backed anti-ISIS Kurdish fighters in Syria object to the Turkish government's proposal for a "safe zone" in northern Syria, because they see it as aimed at helping Turkish-backed Islamist militants prevent U.S.-backed Kurdish fighters from controlling the Turkey-Syria border. <br class="">
