Hermann Göring</a> and in November he became the president of the <i>Vereinigung nationalsozialistischer Juristen</i> ("Union of National-Socialist Jurists"). He also replaced Hermann Heller as professor at the
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Berlin" title="University of Berlin">
University of Berlin</a>,</span><sup><span lang="EN" style="font-size:9.5pt"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Schmitt#cite_note-14">[14]</a></span></sup><span lang="EN"> a position he would hold until the end of
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II" title="World War II">World War II</a>. He presented his theories as an ideological foundation of the
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazism" title="Nazism">Nazi</a> dictatorship, and a justification of the
<i><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%BChrer" title="Führer">Führer</a></i> state with regard to legal philosophy, particularly through the concept of

<i>Deutsche Juristen-Zeitung</i> ("German Jurists' Journal").</span><sup><span lang="EN" style="font-size:9.5pt"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Schmitt#cite_note-facsimile-15">[15]</a></span></sup><span lang="EN"> In July he published in it "The
Leader Protects the Law (<i>Der Führer schützt das Recht</i>)", a justification of the political murders of the
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Long_Knives" title="Night of the Long Knives">
Night of the Long Knives</a> with the authority of Hitler as the "highest form of administrative justice (<i>höchste Form administrativer Justiz</i>)".</span><sup><span lang="EN" style="font-size:9.5pt"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Schmitt#cite_note-DJR-16">[16]</a></span></sup><span lang="EN">
Schmitt presented himself as a radical <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-semitism" title="Anti-semitism">
anti-semite</a> and also was the chairman of a law teachers' convention in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin" title="Berlin">
Berlin</a> during October 1936,</span><sup><span lang="EN" style="font-size:9.5pt"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Schmitt#cite_note-17">[17]</a></span></sup><span lang="EN"> where he demanded that German law be cleansed of the "Jewish spirit (<i>jüdischem
Geist</i>)", going so far as to demand that all publications by Jewish scientists should henceforth be marked with a small symbol.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS" title="SS">SS</a> publication <i><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_schwarze_Korps" title="Das schwarze Korps">Das schwarze Korps</a></i> accused Schmitt of being an opportunist, a Hegelian state thinker, and
basically a Catholic, and called his anti-semitism a mere pretense, citing earlier statements in which he criticized the Nazis' racial theories. After this, Schmitt resigned from his position as "Reichsfachgruppenleiter" (<i>Reich Professional Group Leader</i>),
although he retained his job as a professor in Berlin and his title "<i>Preußischer Staatsrat</i>". I and other members of the Champaign-Urbana peace group AWARE (Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort) are disappointed that The News-Gazette chose not to cover our demonstration at the University of Illinois College of Law on Oct. 28. But we were pleased that other local
news organizations - notably Fox News Champaign - did so.<br>

We, along with Professor Francis Boyle, a law faculty member, and other local organizations (The World Can't Wait, STEM Boycotts the War Machine, WRFU World Labor Hour, Prairie Greens) were protesting the support of the Obama administration's war-making, as
expressed by a speaker at the law school, Harold Koh.<br>
<br>
Koh is a lawyer, a Yale dean and professor, and former legal adviser to the State Department in the Obama administration. He was a member of the Reagan and Clinton administrations and is a strong supporter of Obama's drone assassinations. Koh is expected to
be appointed to a position in a Hillary Clinton administration, for his support of her war-making.<br>

Like all American presidents for more than a generation, President Barack Obama is making war around the world. He has killed thousands with drone assassinations - for which he is reported to choose the targets himself, from lists prepared by the CIA. And now
his administration is threatening Russia with war in Syria - and beyond.<br>

Hillary Clinton threatens to do the same, or worse. Unless the American people stand up to our elected officials and urge them to stop the killing and destruction, humanity may well be doomed.<br>
