FYI, everyone-
I attended a meeting of the Progressive Resource/Action Coalition and
learned that students are circulating a petition similar to the statement
that we presented to Johnson's aide. They plan on delivering their
petition (with about 180 signatures, thus far) next week. Would anybody
from the original group like to go with them? It could be interesting to
hear if Johnson's official position has changed.

>Here is the phraseology used in our petition:
>
>We, the undersigned, are opposed to any form of massive retaliation in
>response to the terrorist attacks of New York and Washington, DC on
>September 11th, 2001. We believe that justice will only be achieved by
>having the accused tried in world courts. As a country that upholds the
>principles of liberty, justice, and freedom, we believe that we should set
>an example for the world by not responding in undemocratic ways.
>Responding to the senseless deaths of thousands by unleashing a massive
>military response on more innocent civilians does not follow these
>principles of democracy. We are in support of a peaceful resolve. We
>believe that our tax dollar should now be going to the reconstruction of
>America's battered infrastructure instead of going to fund a military
>machine that will escalate tensions with nations in another part of the world.
>
> I can delay our scheduled meeting with Jennifer Callahan at the
>Johnson opffice until next week so that we can use the petition at the
>rally on Monday....
>
>thanks,
