La Casa Cultural Latina, the Native American House, and the University of
Illinois Student Cultural Programming Fee invite you to a unique
collaboration on Thursday and Friday, April 26th and 27th which explores
contemporary and diverse expressions of indigneity. Invited speaker, Larry
Emerson, a healer, a hata'a'li' for the Diné community in Shiprock, NM, will
discuss the impact of colonization on indigenous peoples, with an emphasis
on the process of indigenous decolonization and recovery from historical
trauma. Dr. Emerson will provide examples of how indigenous communities
and/or persons who identify with an indigenous heritage can begin such a
decolonization process.

Dr. Emerson will present a lecture, "Decolonization Encounters:
Contemporary and Diverse Expressions of Indigeneity," at Greg Hall Room 100
on Thursday, April 26 at 4 pm. On Friday, April 27, beginning at 1 pm at
Anita Purves Nature Center, 1503 N. Broadway, Urbana, Dr. Emerson will
facilitate a Decolonization Workshop and dialoguing process that will help
students further understand issues around colonization and the
decolonization/recovery process. This workshop will also create a
supportive space for persons of multiple indigenous heritages from across
the Americas to connect and dialogue about historical and cultural
commonalities and differences.

Both of these events are free and open to the public.
