*New Band, Familiar Faces- Panda and Child hits Midwest*

Perhaps you haven't heard of Panda and Child, but come out to one of their
shows and you may see some familiar faces. Currently hailing from the east
coast, Panda and Child is almost entirely comprised of displaced
Midwesterners. Band members Deric Shannon (co-founder Woodenman Records),
Andy Jackson, Maria Yates, and Josh Young all met while attending Ball State
University in Muncie, IN.  It was in Muncie's burgeoning music scene that
these friends began playing together in bands such as The Lou Reeds, Baby's
Revenge, and The McFly's.  If the nostalgia alone doesn't bring you out to
one of their shows, then their new sound should.



Panda and Child is one of those bands that might make even the most fluent
of rock critics scratch their heads. At the heart of it all though, you can
tell these musicians grew up on the Midwest greats; the Jesus Lizard,
Shellac, and Tortoise to name a few.  These influences are clearly
noticeable on some songs. They've got the shouting vocals, thick distorted
guitars, and solid, mathy bass lines that make calculus seem easy. Keep
listening, however, and you'll hear a different sound all together. Silvery,
translucent vocals, flute and trumpet, and the seasick drone of an accordion
replace the noise and mayhem.



Panda and Child will be on tour August 3rd through 11th promoting their new
e.p. *It Ain't Rocket Surgery.*  This is their first e.p. and is being
released on Woodenman Records, a homegrown, indie label from the Midwest.
