Using information from this fundraising PSA, and what Dan put up on the website (which looks really good) I made a short PSA that people could use during shows. I am placing it on the back of the poster that is going in the studio window, facing the studio, so that it can be easily read during shows. I am only tacking it on there for now, so it is very open to further suggestions and work. I can easily change it. People should also feel free to use their own enthusiasitic wording.

Also, I notice on the web site that Dan put the IMC 501c3 tax exempt number 37-1403593. Does that mean that number can be given out over the radio, or used in brochures, on signs, etc?

Here is what I wrote so far:

WRFU-LP 104.5 FM needs your support to keep community radio alive in Champaign-Urbana. The station needs a new broadcast tower and studio equipment to reliably serve the entire listening area. To donate to this effort, contact the station at www.wrfu.net or put your donation in the mail today to

  WRFU
202 South Broadway #112

WRFU is a working group of the Independent Media Center, which is a 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit. This means that any donations made to WRFU or the IMC will be tax deductible for you!

Rough draft of RFU Fundraising PSA. I figure this PSA effort won't get off the ground until there is a draft for others to criticize, tear apart, augment, and improve, so here is one - rip it to shreds if necessary, and then once it's ready, let's get airshifters reading the final draft during their shows:

  WRFU Fundraising
WRFU-LP 104.5FM, Radio Free Urbana
add date: IMMEDIATELY
drop date: Nov 11, 2007

WRFU-LP 104.5FM needs your support to keep community radio alive in Champaign-Urbana. Programming at WRFU provides listeners with a wide variety of news, world and local music, discussion of current events, and a free forum in which community members can host their own shows. WRFU is a community-based all volunteer operation. To continue to provide these services, the station needs a new broadcast tower, broadcast mixing console, and funds to deliver Internet streaming. If you would like to donate to WRFU or if you are interested in hosting your own fundraising event in the community space in Urbana, contact the station at www.wrfu.net for more information or visit the station at the Independent Media Center, located on 202 S. Broadway in the old post office building in Urbana.

Could you, Dan or someone else put a link to the PSA site on the desktop
of the studio computer? This will make it easy to access and increase
it's use by live shows.

RFU-Finance,
The first easy, thing that RFU-Finance needs to do is write a PSA for
general station fundraising to post now that PSAs are back (thanks to
Noel and Dan for that!) It should list all of our many needs,
concentrating on the tower campaign, but also noting the studio gear
needs and the need to fundraise if our listeners want to have streaming
available. Then RFU-Finance needs to propose that EVERY live show be
required to read this PSA at least once during their show, then put a
sign in the studio to remind everyone to do that.

Finance also needs to RECORD a similar PSA so that it can be put into
the automation system. I've suggested this several times in the last
year, but someone needs to followup with it. Then Finance can move on to
the rest of what needs to be done with fundraising past these two EASY
first steps.
