Dear Community Justice Volunteers,

It's that time again, and no, I don't mean time to watch Greys Anatomy
or Snakes on a Plane. It's time to start back up volunteering with
Community Justice. Welcome to those of you who are new to the program
and for those of you who are returning, welcome back!

ORIENTATIONS

If you are new to the program or simply need a refresher then please
stop by our orientation meetings this Wednesday and Tuesday at 6:30 in
347 Lincoln Hall. This should only be approximately a half hour
meeting. We will go over each of the projects Community Justice offers
from Pen Pals to Books to Prisoners from Mediation to Supervision and
introducing the Skills Program. You will receive all necessary
background check forms and pen pal packets. See you there!

MEDIATION

VORP of Campaign County will be conducting 2-3 fall mediator
trainings. These free trainings will occur at the Brookens Center,
1776 E.Washington, St. in Urbana, IL 61801. The training consists of
20 hours spread over the follow evenings:

Thursday, 5:30 to 9:30
Friday 5:30 to 9:30
Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm
Sunday, 1pm to 5 pm

Options being considered for the courses are Aug. 31st-Sept. 3rd,
Sept. 7th - 10th, Sept. 14 to 17th. Please e-mail Mark Krug at
mkrug at ccrpc.org with questions. He will be at the CJ orientation this
Wednesday to respond to questions then as well.

PEN PALS

It's time to start up your already existing pen pal correspondences. A
good topic for this letter is what you did this summer and your
thoughts on the beginning of the school year. If you are no longer
writing or have graduated please contact our Pen Pals coordinators Amy
Kunkel, amykunkel at gmail.com and Janice Shaw, jshaw1 at uiuc.edu. Remember
to use your pseudonym as your name and our office at VIP as the return
address.

If you would like a new pen pal, stop by the orientations or, starting
Thursday, new pen pal packets will be found on the door of the VIP
office in the RSO complex (2nd floor of the union on the quad side).
Just be sure to fill out a 1/4 sheet contact form before you take a
pen pal.
