Attention Volunteers.....Health Needs Has New Opportunities:
1. PACE (Persons Assuming Control of their Environment)
2. Swann Special Care Center
3. Relay for Life
*********** PACE ********************************************
PACE is looking for volunteers to help in a variety of
positions to assist others with disabilities in achieving
independence. Some opportunitites include teaching people
how to use public transportation systems, reading to people
with vision loss, helping someone shop, etc. There is also
office work available if personal contact is not your strong
suit. The hours are flexible and could be designed on an
event basis or a weekly basis. They are very eager to find

********** Swann Special Care Center ************************
This center is a home for children with severe disabilities.
Opportunities include one on one activities, like reading,
assist in various classrooms, help children get ready for
the day. The center generally works on a weekly volunteering
basis with particular need for volunteers between 6-7pm on
the weekdays, but also has special project days. For more
info on weekly volunteering contact Leonora Byram at 217-356-

********* Relay for Life ************************************
Relay for Life is an annual fundraiser that is held in
various sites around the country for cancer research and
medical care. It is being held again this year in Champaign
on April 9 - 10th. Registration for teams is taking place
this Thursday, March 3rd, 2005 in the southwest corner of
the Union between 11-3pm. To register you must have a team
of between 10-15 people with a $50 deposit. The goal of the
team is then to rasie around $100 dollars per team mate. the
team can do a variety of activities to raise the money. On
April 9th all the teams campus wide with stay up all night
to celebrate the fundraising and the memories of loved ones
lost to cancer. The event includes a lot of socialization, a
survivior talk, and a candlelight ceremony in the
rememberace of those lost to the disease.
