VIP: Senior Citizens Meeting Recap

Hey Everyone,

Hope you're having a good snow day! Since the meeting was cancelled I
thought I could just send out an email with what would have been covered.

*What a typical week will look like:*

We will be going to nursing homes four days a week:

*Monday*: Fun & Games Night from 6:30-7:30p at Champaign County Nursing Home
*Tuesday*: BINGO/Fun & Games Night from 6:30-7:30p at Helia Healthcare of
Champaign
*Wednesday*: Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center. Event is TBA and will
probably around 6:30p
*Thursday: *BINGO from 6:45-7:45p at Prairie Winds Assisted Living

The schedule is very flexible. You can come as often or as little as you
like!

*Transportation:*

*
*Rides will always be provided!*  We drive a gray VIP van and we meet at
Union Circle Drive which is right in front of the Illini Union (The Green
Street side)

*Other Opportunities:*

*
*1. Get Paired with Senior* - You can get paired with a senior to hang out
with every week or every other week. This is the best way that you can
really get to know them and make a direct impact on their life. You would
also get to learn some really cool things. This is separate from the weekly
events but we would still provide rides. Let me know if you are interested
or would like more information!
*2. Special Events *- We will be having special events such as holiday
decorating, organizing books, and helping with the garden.  I'll let you
know when those opportunities are available.
*3. Working on your own with the nursing home* - If you would like to play
an instrument for the seniors, read to them, deliver newspapers, or help
serve meals, I can set you up with the Volunteer Director at Champaign
County Nursing home and you can set up times to help out on your own.

*Coordinator Positions:*

We still have two coordinator positions available. Coordinators are
responsible for attending an event every week, driving, and making sure
everything runs smoothly at the nursing home. This is a great way to become
more involved and get more out of the project.  Let me know if you have any
questions or would like to set up an interview time!

I'll be sending out weekly emails letting you all know the schedule for the
upcoming week. *Volunteering will start next Monday on 2/7! *
