A WOMAN'S FUND MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to eliminate violence against women and children and, until that happens, to provide safety and support to survivors of that violence as they take control of their own lives.

ABOUT A WOMAN'S FUND

It takes courage to survive domestic violence or sexual assault. A Woman's Fund works to help survivors recognize that courage within themselves.

A Woman's Fund merges two programs-Rape Crisis Services and A Woman's Place. Started in 1971 as the country's oldest hotline and shelter for abused women and children, A Woman's Fund, Inc. merged with the local sexual assault hotline in 1979. Today, we offer comprehensive advocacy and support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence.

The Facts about the Abuse

About 1 in 3 women experience a physical assault by a loved one during adulthood, and 40% of teenage girl's age 14 to 17 reports knowing someone their age that has been hit or beaten by a boyfriend. It has been estimated that Family violence costs the nation from $5 to $10 billion annually in medical expenses, police and court costs, shelters and foster care, sick leave, absenteeism, and non-productivity.
