Message-ID: I've just received my invitation to join the PC in Ghana in early June (service date to commence the latter part of August). I'm coming into the Education program as an ICT Specialist, Teacher. In doing research about Ghana I came across your organization, Wireless Ghana. And your bio indicates that you're still with the PC (from a web page on the Int. Summit for Community Wireless Networks). My background is 30+ years in IT though not a deep specialist. However, as an IBM'er my role in supporting IT customers (diverse in nature) I needed to have a sys. admin. level of skill in UNIX and to a lesser degree Linux and Windows. Anyway, I'm just trying to get a handle on what will be possible when I hit the ground in Ghana, whether I can expand beyond teaching into breaching the digital divide with network infrastructure creation or expansion. I've had limited experience with some folks here in the S.F. Bay area using Meraki technology. I've no idea what is possible in Ghana when it comes to government policies, interest, funding, etc. of networks. I'm just hoping I'll have some network connectivity where I'm placed. It looks like I may be focused principally on teaching middle to high school level kids somewhere in Ghana. I'd planned on bringing along my ThinkPad but I'm also considering getting a second laptop of some kind that can run something other than Vista. I suppose I can try and find an older copy of Win95 or something that is more representative of what ought to be used in the classroom, but I've no clue as yet. In any case, I'd love to hear your thoughts. -- Sincerely, Steve Schaffer -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
