Greetings from Urbana artist, Sandra Ahten. This newsletter of events 
pertaining to the visual arts will be sent to you no more than once per 
month.

      This issue contains announcements of

1) ART CLASSES

* DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN - MONDAY NIGHT CLASSES
For adults who have always wanted to learn to draw, but felt like they 
lacked talent or confidence. This class teaches “realistic” or 
“naturalistic” drawing.  Students learn that drawing well is really a matter 
of learning a new way of seeing.  (Youth accepted with permission.)
7 - 9pm, Jan. 12, 19, 26, Feb. 2, 9.	Cost $95

* DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN - WEEKEND WORKSHOP
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Jan. 23, 6 - 8pm, Jan. 24 & 25, 9am - 3pm. (With 
an hour for lunch.)	Cost $95

* EXPLORING COLOR: THEORY AND PRACTICE - TUESDAY NIGHT CLASS Using exercises 
in watercolor, monoprinting, acrylic paints, colored pencil, and collage, 
participants will be studying the characteristics of color.
7 – 9pm, Jan. 13, 20, 27, Feb. 3, 10.	 Cost $95.

* COLLAGE FOR THE SOUL - TUESDAY NIGHT CLASS
Students will learn a variety of collage techniques, including photo and 
photocopy transfer, papermaking and manipulation, and frottage, while 
exploring a particular subject, such as a place, a memory, an experience, or 
a relationship. No art-making experience necessary.
7 - 9pm, Feb. 17, 24, March 2, 9, 16.	 Cost $95.

* FUNDAMENTALS OF OIL PAINTING – WEEKDAY WORKSHOP
This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of oil painting 
techniques. Working from a still-life, participants will learn basic color 
theory and indirect and direct painting techniques. The class will also 
include demonstration of other techniques, such as glazing and scumbling. 
Materials provided for $22. This is a great way to try oil painting without 
a huge investment in supplies.
Tuesday – Friday, Jan. 20, 21, 22, 23, 9am – Noon. 	Cost $95.

* FUNDAMENTALS OF OIL PAINTING – WEEKEND WORKSHOP
Friday, Jan. 16, 6 - 8pm, Saturday, & Sunday, Jan. 17 & 18, 9am - 3pm. (With 
an hour for lunch.) 	Cost $95.

* WATERCOLOR – WEEKEND WORKSHOP
This 3-day workshop covers the basics of watercolor and is for beginner and 
intermediate painters. Subject matter, composition, materials, and technique 
will be studied through demonstration and practice. Material provided - $22.
Friday, Feb. 6, 6-9pm, Saturday & Sunday, Feb. 7 & 8, 9 - 3pm. 	Cost $95.

*ART WITH INTENTION (OPEN STUDIO) - THURSDAY NIGHT CLASS
This class is not group-taught, but is flexible and individually directed to 
each of the students. It is an opportunity for adults to explore their 
creative voices. Individualized projects will be based on the student's 
desire to learn new media such as watercolor or encaustic, gain skill in 
drawing or painting, or complete a project such as a portrait. Exploratory 
materials provided.

Limited enrollment.

Thursdays Beginning Jan. 15, 2-hour drop in time between 3 - 9 pm. $95 for 5 
(2-hour) sessions in 6 weeks.

2) GIFT CERTIFICATES
Gift Certificates for classes are available. Recommended amount is $95 -- as 
this covers most classes and workshops. Certificates can be used by the 
recipients for any classes or workshops in 2004. Gifts Certificate will be 
mailed to you or your recipient, as you wish.

3) ARTIST  - CALL FOR ENTRIES

I am going to be curating the second annual "Postcards for Peace" benefit 
auction. Artists will be asked to donate 4 x 6 inch works of art. Details 
soon.

I am considering artists for two or three person shows to be held at High 
Cross Studio during March through Sept. Shows will hang for 3 weeks. Contact 
me if you are interested.
