** Altered Book Workshop

An altered book is any book, old or new that has been recycled by creative 
means into a work of art. They can be ... rebound, painted, cut, burned, 
folded, added to, collaged in, gold-leafed, rubber stamped, drilled or

**Life Drawing Session
The public is invited to participate in life drawing sessions with a nude 
model. Any media. Brush up on your drawing or painting skills or explore new 
techniques. The life drawing sessions will be a combination of short 
gestures for warm up followed by longer poses. Sessions are without 
instruction, but include artists who would be glad to discuss techniques. No 
registration necessary. As easels are limited you are welcome to bring your 
own.
When: Sundays; Sept. 10 – Dec 10; 1PM-4PM

Where: 202 S. Broadway, Independent Media Center/ lower level downtown 
Urbana Post Office

** Studio Space / Teaching Opportunities

Cherry Alley Artists at IMC's Community and Media Arts Center

If you are a professional artist, a wanna-be, an art student, a Sunday 
painter, an art teacher, or would just like to share space with other artist 
– Join us! We are the Cherry Alley Artists.  This is perfect for someone who 
needs to get their paints off of their kitchen table; for someone looking 
for inspiration; for mentoring; for a cool place to hang out and make art, 
or teach an art class. Any and all types of artists welcome.

We have six artist committed and are looking for two more!

Primarily the collective will share a studio/classroom and a 
woodshop/workshop room in the downtown Urbana Post Office building which is 
now also the UC-IMC's Community and Media Arts Center.

The price ranges from $45 a month for using common space to approximately 
$120 per month to have an individual space. Contact Sandra Ahten at

**An Un-Art Related Announcement:

The Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners Project is holding a
Community Book Sale on Saturday, October 22, 2005 from 9AM – 5PM. More than 
10,000 books, are priced to sell. There is a great selection of fiction, 
non-fiction, and children’s books to choose from.

The sale is being held, rain or shine, at the Lincoln Square Village in 
Urbana. Lincoln Square is at Green Street between Race and Vine.

The book sale is being held to fund the Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners 
Project. This project is an outreach program for prisoners in Illinois. The 
organization gets book- request-letters from prisoners, finds books that 
meet their needs, and ships them to the prisoners. They are selling these 
more than 10,000 donated books to raise money for postage and supplies and 
to purchase books for the Champaign County Jail.

You can attend the Community Book Sale to buy books or to help package books 
for prisoners. Book donations and monetary contributions are accepted the
