Hey all,
We've got quite a bit of exceptional bike related activities coming up.
Figured we'd pass along a summary. There is quite a bit going on this
Saturday (July 17th)!
*Urbana Bicycle Friendly Community Award* - Saturday, July 17th, 10AM at the
Urbana Farmers Market
- The League of American Bicyclist is awarding Urbana with a Bronze
Bicycle Friendly Community Award.
- It would make a big impact if the cycling community could make a big
showing at the market and the award ceremony.
- Show the Urbana City Council and city planners that you appreciate the
infrastructure work that been done (new bike lanes) and in the planning
phases.
- Saturday morning at the Market there will also be a *Bicycle Rodeo* for
children (contact Rose Hudson <Hudsonx4 at aol.com> to volunteer) and a *Family
friendly bike ride* (contact Cynthia Hoyle <choyle57 at comcast.net> for
info).
*The Bike Project - Vote on Americorp Applications* - Saturday and Sunday,
July 17th & 18th at the UC-IMC Bike Project during 2-5PM open hours
- The Bike Project will be getting an Americorp volunteer starting in
August. We've received many qualified applications and need to vote on the
preferred candidate.
- Bike Project members can stop by open hours on Saturday and Sunday to
vote on the applicants. Resumes and cover letters will be available for
review on a table with a simple voting matrix.
- You will vote for your 1st and 2nd choice and the Steering Committee
will tally the votes and set up interviews the following week. Member votes
are critical to picking the best candidate!
- You must be a current member to vote! Ask a staffer during hours if
you would like to check your membership status.
*The Bike Project General Meeting* - Tuesday, July 27th, 6PM @ the Campus
Bike Project
- This is the time of year when TBP gets super busy. Lots of important
TBP business to be discussed including the final Americorp selection.
- Members get a vote on items decided at the meeting. Come make a
difference and figure out how TBP really works.
- Agenda on the wiki (
http://thebikeproject.wikispaces.com/2010-July-27+Agenda). Food will be
provided.
- *Note:* The meeting will be held at the Campus Bike
Project<http://www.thebikeproject.org/campus.html>on Pennsylvania and
will therefore impact regular Tuesday hours.
*The Mustache Ride* - Saturday August 21st (www.mustacheride.org)
- 2nd Year for this Ride / Party. Planning currently in progress. Tons
of fun last year.
- Start growing (or building) your mustache. Mustaches will be judged in
both real and fake categories.
- Email Phil (pmgraff at gmail.com) if you would like to help volunteer.
*July Shop Etiquette Tip -* Start cleaning up before closing time. Don't
make volunteers stay over.
- Please plan your bike repairs (as much as possible) such that you have
time to clean up and put away tools before the shop closes.
- Usually there is an announcement about 15 minutes before the shop is
scheduled to close. If your bike needs multiple sessions of repair work,
please plan for another way to get home (such as the bus).
- At the time of the 15 minute warning, tag your bike if necessary, put
away tools, and clean up your work space. Pay for any purchases at the
register.
- TBP is largely staffed with volunteers and it is not appreciated when
they have to stay after hours on an "emergency" repair.
- Thanks for your consideration and continued support of The Bike
Project!
See you around and the various bike related excitement!
Tony
