I would be happy to take the first couple of hours at the Peace Bazaar. I don't own a card table, but would transport someone else's. This is the morning after the radio program in which I want to have a discussion about Books to Prisoners, focusing on the Christmas gift alternative concept. It might be a taped interview done by Chris and Rita aired on their program Thursday nights as wel. Joan will be on my program talking about the Peace Bazaar on November 25. It can be mentioned then as well. Barbara

Subject: [Bookstoprisoners] Alternative Gifts at the Peace Bazaar

  Hello all--

I got an email this weekend from Joan Nelshoppen that I have copied below. Is any one free Saturday, December 3rd from 9-3 to staff a table at the Peace Bazaar? Jay and I will be out of town that weekend, but it would be great if the were a few people who could split the time to promote the gift program. I'm sure that we can have fliers/cards ready for that day if there are people to staff the booth.

If you can do it, please let the list know and contact Joan Nelshoppen as well. Her contact info is

My name is Joan Nelshoppen and I coordinate the Peace Bazaar, a local alternative gift fair now in its 35th year. We sell a lot of recycled things at the Peace Bazaar and then donate the funds to peace and social justice groups. Books to Prisoners is not one of the recipients this year (although there's an extremely good chance it will be in the future) but I think we might be able to help you a little this year, if you are interested.

In addition to the huge sale, we also have a few booth spaces for charities and groups to sell their wares or give out information. Would Books to Prisoners be interested in bringing information about your program and some of those unique cards and see if you can get some donations while at the Bazaar? I have no guarantee that you would earn anything (I hope that you would) but it would be a good chance to educate the public and it could work out well for you. I hope you will join us at the Peace Bazaar.

The Peace Bazaar will be held on Saturday, December 3 from 9 am to 3 pm at Community United Church of Christ (6th and Daniel) in Champaign. Please let me know if you are interested. You probably should bring your own card table since we tend to use every table there for the bazaar.

For more info about the Bazaar, go to: http://www.peacebazaar.org/

There are still a few parts of the web site under construction.

Also, we sell a lot of books at the Peace Bazaar and we also have many that are left-over. I was planning on donating them (it will be several boxes) to Books for Prisoners. Is there any possibility that I could get a few volunteers from your group to pick them up? I am usually short on volunteers when it comes time to cart the many left-overs to the various charities. If that is not possible, could you remind me when your normal hours for dropping off books are so that I can arrange to do that?

  Yours,

  Joan Nelshoppen
