Welcome to Common Ground Food Co-op's weekly (for now) e-newsletter! You're
getting this missive because you're a member of Common Ground who's also
signed up to be on the CGFC mailing list. If you aren't interested in
receiving these updates, please email lisabk at gmail.com.

Every week, via this transmission, members are provided with store
updates/news, links to relevant news items/political actions, and other bits
and pieces worthy of mention. If you have anything of a similar bent you
think members should know about, please email links to lisabk at gmail.com.
Thanks!

STORE/LOCAL NEWS:

****HAPPY NEW YEAR, CGFCers!
Thanks so much for all your support in 2005; 2006 is shaping up to be quite
a year, too. We're rolling up our sleeves and looking forward to bringing
members more new products, expanded member services, and other co-oppy
goodness in the new year. Thanks again!

****IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR
A little ray of sunshine for the home farmers out there - CGFC is currently
putting together our annual herb, flower, and vegetable seed order from the
fine folks at Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, IA. Seed Savers features
many, many varieties of heirloom seeds (many of them certified organic) and
this year, we're ordering twice as many varieties of seed as last year.
Stake out your patch of dirt and get ready - they should be arriving toward
the end of February.

See pretty pictures here:

****HOME COOKING:
Is there a dish you wish the co-op cooks and bakers would prepare once in
awhile? Cooks & Bakers manager Eric is taking your suggestions. Feel free to
drop your request for a salad, soup, baked treat, bread or whatever you
relish into Eric's mailbox in the CGFC office.

****CO-OP CHILDCARE:
If you're interested in helping out with co-op childcare (every Thursday
starting at noon), please fill out one of the forms available on the media
table next to the freezer in the store.

****NEW WORKER ORIENTATION:
If you're interested in becoming a CGFC working member, watch this space for
more information regarding the next worker orientation meeting sometime
later this month (exact date and time TBA). There will be several in a row
after the new semester begins.

****NEW PRODUCTS:
The store is full to bursting with new products - new canned soups, new
cookies, new frozen foods, new bulk items, new new new! Also, never forget
our ever-changing produce selection.
Come into the store to check out grocery buyer Katie's latest list of new
items in stock!

BOOKMARK FODDER:

****COOL LOCAL SCENE:
And not the music scene, either:

"SIX years ago 'organic' was the next big thing in grocery shopping, but the
term has begun to lose its luster. It has been co-opted by agribusiness,
which has succeeded in watering down the restrictions of the definition.
Today 'local' and 'sustainable' are the new culinary buzzwords."

Please feel free to forward these links to people you think might benefit
from such knowledge.
Thanks and look for issue 2.1 same time (more or less) next week!
