You think Apple just has more power of the telcos?  Or they are just more likely to wield it?  To me if feels like some Google upper management's personal vendetta against ad-hoc mode, like he thought it was a bad design when he was engineering school and vowed to himself to not support it ;).  Everything else supports it, including lots of phones...
