Hi Commotion Devs,
Several of at OTI have been pushing hard to get the Commotion Linux
client to a point of approximate feature-parity with the OpenWRT
software stack, and we're happy to report that we're getting pretty
close. As of now, the updated Linux client supports the following

- - Encrypted backhaul
- - Service advertisement (service browsing is implemented, but appears
to be broken right now), via a port of the Luci-based system,
accessible at localhost:8080
- - Network-manager and "fallback" connection paths. The latter
approach allows clients with outdated versions of wpasupplicant to
connect to encrypted mesh networks anyway, with the help of a
custom-built version of wpasupplicant (commotion-wpasupplicant). This
feature should extend full Commotion capabilities back to fairly old
OSes - but we need to figure out exactly how old. So far, we've only
gone back to 12.04.
- - Auto-generation and retainment of IBSS cell parameters and IP
addresses (where desired).
- - Extensive logging, dumped to various files in /tmp
- - Various bugfixes and usability enhancements

A more extensive readme can be found in the commotion-linux-py.deb
package, which can be downloaded from
https://downloads.commotionwireless.net/linux

To install the entire Linux client, download all the packages
available in that directory, and install them with:
cd $DOWNLOAD_DIRECTORY
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
# You will almost certainly see dependency errors during this process
- - resolve them with:
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
