Dear friends,

You have to opportunity to effect the way policy is made in Urbana.

With the support and encouragement of this community, I am running for
City Council in Urbana to bring sensible, progressive representation to a
progressive ward.  On February 27, voters will decide whether to check the
box next to Danielle Chynoweth and support:

- Developing sustainably
- Preserving our neighborhood and historic buildings
- Saving our trees
- Funding Library Expansion
- Funding our Schools
- Protecting human rights and promoting racial equality
- Developing safe and accessible transportation <-- bike lanes!
- Securing a living wage

Until then, there's lots of work to do.  Whether you live in Ward 4 or
not, I need your help.  What follows are ways you can help, details about
the issues, and a map of the ward.  Please consider offering your time and
a donation to the campaign, talk to your friends in Ward 4, and introduce
me to your Ward 4 neighbors.

TELL YOUR FRIENDS in Ward 4:
VOTE FOR DANIELLE CHYNOWETH on FEBRUARY 27!

Also, send me names of people you know in the ward.  I will write up
support letters you can sign and we will mail them out for you.

And, you can INTRODUCE ME TO YOUR NEIGHBORS in Ward 4.
I will be going door to door every weekend until the Feb. 27 election.  If
you would like to come with me to your friends' doors in Ward 4, it would
be a great help!

VOLUNTEER
Can you give 2 hours of your time?  Can you give more?  We could use it!
We need help: doing mailings, calling people the day of elections,
dropping off yard signs,  going door to door, hanging posters, making
buttons, helping with a fundraising party, and more!

DETAILS ON THE ISSUES
***********************
* Sustainable, Innovative Development *
This city has just embarked on creating a comprehensive plan for
development that will affect the quality of life in the city for
generations to come. I will make sure we promote smart growth, preserve
our neighborhoods, promote affordable housing and home ownership, prevent
sprawl, and add needed bike paths and green spaces.

As co-owner of a thriving downtown business, I spend most of my days in
downtown.  I'm interested in revitalizing the downtown by building on
existing infrastructure in innovative ways.  I am particularly interested
in drawing hi-tech industry into the downtown since it is a clean industry
which pays living wages to workers who could help support downtown retail.

* Neighborhood and Historic Preservation *
There are over 300 buildings over 100 years old in Urbana.  We have lost
many others because of poor planning and priority setting.  I support
strengthening the Historic Preservation Ordinance.

* Saving our Trees *
Over the past 3 years, Illinois Power has become more aggressive about
cutting back trees.  I am dedicated preserving our unique urban tree
canopy.

* Library Expansion *
Urbana has a nationally renowned library.  The library maintains its
reputation while bulging at the seams for space.  The funding needs for
its expansion have not yet been met.  I am committed to funding the
expansion of the library.

* School Funding *
75% of property value in Urbana is tax exempt, such as areas owned by the
university or government.  Over 50% of our property taxes goes to fund our
schools.  I support responsible development of the tax base in Urbana as
well requesting compensation from the state to help Urbana's schools
provide the highest quality education.

* Human Rights and Racial Equality *
I support Urbana's Human Rights Ordinance.  In addition, I am concerned
about the findings of the federal equity audit which found racial
inequities in academic performance in our schools.  I support the School
Board and Equity Steering Committee in securing equal educational
opportunities for all.

* Safe, Accessible Transportation *
I want to promote safety in those areas where cars, bikes, and pedestrians
meet.   I want to help establish a comprehensive network of safe,
accessible bike routes that link Urbana, the U of I, and Champaign.

* Living Wage *
No one working full time should have to live in poverty. I support a
living wage for employees working for companies who receive city dollars.
Since lower wage people spend, rather than save, their entire earnings,
this additional purchasing power can aid our local businesses.
