[C-U Smokefree] Updates

Interesting developments in C-U Smokefree:

 

Dr. Cohen, Anita, Carol and I (the Organizational Planning Committee) have a draft set of by-laws that we are working on and will present to the group at next Thursday's meeting. We will also have the relevant forms to register ourselves as a non-profit and will be electing officers.

 

The Educational Committee will be working with the Prairie Center and the regional In-Touch office (an agency of the Department of Human Services) to create the second-hand smoke community education campaign.  This committee will be closely integrated with the Champaign County Tobacco Prevention Coalition as well.

 

I have been working with Kathy Drea of the state ALA to solicit a state grant to support our efforts. We may want to put some pressure on our state political delegation to help secure this funding. More to come…

 

Kathy Drea's editorial to the News-Gazette appeared on Friday.  Check it out.  Let's get a link to it on the website as well.

 

We also hope to have more new members and a good turnout of those who are currently with us. We look forward to seeing you Thursday at 7!  I’ll post an agenda later this week.
