Thank you So much Kathy Drea for sharing the Christian Science article--I
appreciated it. While the article suggests that the momentum for smoke free work
and public places is picking up and will be moving things forward, let us not
forget that the only major stakeholder in this fight who does not have a
vested interest in the protection of workers and consumers' health is the tobacco
industry.

"Doubt is our product," proclaimed a 1969 Brown and Williamson formerly
secret document (and that means finding was through consultants, through lawyers,
through third parties) to trivialize issues, to confuse issues, and to creat
splinters where that trivialization and confusion become embeded in the public's
sense of "common sense." The press has done a nice job in advancing directly
or indirectly , knowingly or unknowngly the industry's product of doubt. So
it is not so difficult then to understand why we (as health advocates, as
responsible members of the citizenry, and as victims of the direct and
secondhand smoke exposure's ill health effects)we have to fight on so may fronts to
advance the simple goals of good health, safe places for our workers, and above
all , justice and human dignity!

And so all work that is done towards the actualization of these elementary
but honorable goals, is worthy of the time, energy, and will we can devote to
it.

So, keep up the great work, Champaign Urbana Smoke Free Alliance, and keep on
sharing Kathy Drea--and thanks again!

Theo
