C-U Smokefree Coalition Members,

More good news! (see below)

Every new clean indoor air ordinance/law that passes brings smokefree
workplaces, restaurants & bars one step closer to us! And look at these
votes - only one "no" vote in both cities!

Subject: Hats off to Minneapolis and Bloomington, Minnesota!!

Hi all,

Congratulations to Minneapolis and Bloomington, Minnesota, which passed
comprehensive 100% smokefree air ordinances that include all restaurants
and bars last week!! Minneapolis is one of the biggest cities in
Minnesota, and Bloomington is home to the Mall of America, which would
be included in their ordinance. Both ordinances passed overwhelmingly
by 12-1 in Minneapolis and 5-1 in Bloomington, and will both go into
full effect on March 31, 2005. This also may spur action in St. Paul,
Minnesota where city council members are seeking to override the mayor's
veto of a proposed smokefree air ordinance earlier this month.

Congratulations to all the staff and volunteers involved, and special
congratulations and thanks goes to Joy Carmona, Senior Director of
Public Policy for the American Lung Association of Minnesota, for her
dedication and effort to getting strong ordinances passed in both cities
that protect all workers and patrons!!

Regards,

Thomas Carr
