[C-U Smokefree] Senate Bill 254- Senator Rick Winkel

Dear Friends,

Urgent!

There is still time to call your Illinois State Senator Rick Winkel
TODAY at 217-328-0400 and ask him to VOTE "YES" on Senate Bill 254.  It
would remove the current language that keeps local municipalities from
enacting ordinances restricting smoking in public areas. Remember, these
bills do not require municipalities to restrict smoking; they only allow
them the option to do so, if they wish.  This bill would give other
municipalities in Illinois the same rights/options that Champaign &
Urbana have always had (which would take away the "island" status C-U
has now - no one around C-U can pass a similar ordinance).  The tobacco
industry is getting hundreds of calls in to Illinois legislators asking
for "no" votes - which makes every one of our calls more  important. The
vote could take place as early as tomorrow. Please contact me if you
