below is a candidate forum... the smoke ban is the most prominent
issue that comes to mind... they better discuss it

i am not a single-issue voter but when i ask myself what the champaign
city council has done for me in recent history, it occurs to me that
the smoke-ban is the ONLY issue that comes to mind!

it may be somewhat amazing that the cu smokefree group was successful,
*despite* that it has been portrayed as a group of ruthless,
manipulative and powerful single-issue fascists... to the contrary, it
appears to me it is really a small group of very dedicated people
supported by a very large group of non-affiliated citizenry (myself
included) who (speaking for myself) merely think a smokefree cu spells
progress

The subject line says most of it. The League of Women Voters
is sponsoring a candidates' forum for all nine Champaign
City Council candidates -- four Democrats, five Republicans --
next Wednesday, Feb. 21st, from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Champaign City Council
chambers. It will also be broadcast on Champaign Gov't TV
(cable channel 5).

The public are invited to submit questions (cards will be available
to write them down during the forum), though with nine candidates and
two hours it may only be possible to handle about ten questions.

These nine candidates are competing for three at-large City Council seats.
they'll be whittled down from nine to six in the primary election
to be held on Feb. 27th; see the sample ballot at:
