[Cu-wireless] write a server-free chat application!

Is anybody interested in writing a chat application that runs without a
server?

A desirable chat app will allow person-to-person chat and chat "rooms." It
provides for chat participants' authentication and privacy. The app
"discovers" other chat applications on the network using, e.g., multicast.
It uses network resources efficiently. A compelling solution has ports
to Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, Windows, and UNIX. (Perhaps it is a Java applet?)
The chat app should be accompanied by a plan for distributing the app
on a community wireless network, and documentation for the app's network
requirements (e.g., does it need multicast routing?).

Yes, this is a really tall order. I think that you will solve this
problem over the span of several releases. Early releases will punt on
security, the distribution plan, support for certain platforms, etc.

Is anybody interested?
