[CWN-Summit] OPeN & community wireless networking:

Hi everyone,

Matt Westervelt brought a crazy idea to team CUWiN while were were all in
Denmark together a couple months back -- that community wireless networks
could somehow utilize the unaffiliated, off-the-shelf access points of our
neighbors to relay packets between network nodes (and coordinate their
activity). What this would allow us to do would be to connect areas of a
community wireless network that couldn't otherwise directly "see" each
other by bouncing packets off of neighboring APs. What's nice about this
solution is that it may actually _lessen_ interference for the middle AP
(that's relaying information) while, at the same time, improving
connectivity for the community wireless network. The idea is spelled out
here:

It would be extremely useful if folks would take a few minutes to look it
over and comment on any potential flaws (or brilliant solutions) to the
idea. We need both technical and non-technical eyes on the proposal.

Thanks for your help,

--Sascha
