Bob,

I would suggest using a 2 radio box, with one radio as client to your
network, and the other passively listening with kismet.  This would give
you full pcap dumps, and you would be able to do channel switching, etc.


How inexpensive it gets really depends on how much work you're willing
to put into it.   There isn't anything that I've seen that does
*exactly* what you want it to do, but you can probably find a canned
commercial solution that does 50-80%.   I wouldn't expect it to be cheap
though.

Another question I'd ask right away is how 'in the field' these need to
be.  Are you talking mobile (battery powered) or placed in a fixed
location and always on (wired in).

I can probably help you spec something out.
